Nuclear Magetic Resonance Spectroscopy NMR

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) provides clients analytical data regarding the type, quantity and arrangement of atoms in pure compounds and mixtures of liquids or solids dissolved in an appropriate solvent. NMR spectra are unique, well-resolved, analytically tractable and are often highly predictable for small molecules. Different functional groups are obviously distinguishable, and identical functional groups with differing neighboring substituents still give distinguishable signals. Here at Moore Analytical we use the Thermo Scientific Picospin 80 which has a field strength of 80 MHz. This instrument provides 1D proton NMR of liquid samples or solids dissolved in an appropriate solvent.

NMR analysis applications:

  • Chemical structure analysis of liquids and dissolved solids
  • Deformulation of products
  • Quantification of mixture components
  • Kinetic and temperature studies of reaction mixtures
  • Characterization of polymers, including structure, co-monomer ratios, end groups, average molecular weight (MW).
